OUR ATTITUDE TOWARD THE ENEMY - "STAND"
Ephesians 6:10-18
Paul commands you to be strong in the lord.
You are empowered through your union with Jesus.
You must draw your strength from Jesus.
The strength in which Jesus provides - is the ability that provides the believer to stand.
The ability to stand your ground against all that the world & the enemy can bring against you.
Every new spiritual experience - in the believer's life begins with sitting down,
Which leads to walking with Jesus.
1) In faith
2) In agreement
3) In the direction He leads.
But it does not stop there - every believer must learn how to stand against the enemy.
Every believer in Jesus Christ must be prepared for the every day conflict.
You must know when to sit down and when to walk and when to stand.
If you lack any of these qualities in your life,
You will never know the reality of victory in your spiritual life.
Vrs. 10 says that the believer in Jesus is made strong.
Strong in the lord and in the power of his might!
We are given His strength.
We are given the power of His might
First of all to withstand or out last the enemy - verse 13.
We must not yield to the devil's temptations or his assaults on our lives.
We must withstand them - oppose them and fight against them.
The enemy will stand against you - and when he does - you must stand against him.
How do I stand against him?
- You stand against him when you strive and stand against accusations and temptation.
- You stand against him when you stand against what seems to be impossible situations.
- You stand against him when you stand against sin.
Satan's kingdom is the kingdom of darkness.
Satan's kingdom is a kingdom of deception, of temptation and sin against God.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
The wrong desires or the temptations that come into your life.
They are not anything new and different they have been here from the beginning.
We all have faced at one time or another exactly the same problems.
There is no temptation that you cannot resist.
God says that there is no temptation so strong that you cannot stand against it.
He will show you how to escape temptation's power and how to stand against it!
God's promise is that you will be able to withstand in the day of temptation.
Secondly - you must stand your ground.
The scripture says and, having done all to stand.
You must decide - make a choice - not to yield to the Devil.
The scripture says resist him - and he will flee.
You must know the cause of why you are fighting.
Why are we fighting?
You must know why you are fighting, what you are fighting for, and who you are fighting,
Why are you fighting?
The enemy knows you don't know because you tell him so.
By your words, by your actions, by your faith in God's word for you.
The enemies' defeat in your life depends upon you.
Who is your leader?
How well do you know your commander?
If you don't know who the leader is -
How will you know whom to follow?
Which way to go?
Who to listen to?
Do you know what armor you have for the battle?
The idea is that you have the advantage over the enemy.
Not that he has the advantage over you.
If you don't know who you are fighting, why you are fighting or how to stand,
You will not have the advantage over the enemy.
He will have the advantage over you !
Our fight is to withstand the assaults of the enemy.
The scripture says, "having done all stand."
When we can stand our ground against the enemy,
Our warfare will be accomplished.
Because Jesus has already won the victory!
***Hallelujah***
The word of God says that we must stand.
But how do we stand?
We stand armed in the complete armor of God.
2 Corinthians 6:4-10
The armor of God is the armor of light and of righteousness.
There are two forces are at war:
- God is claiming the earth as his dominion.
- And Satan is seeking to place himself over the authority of God.
We as the church of Jesus Christ are called to displace Satan from his present realm.
There are three areas of spiritual warfare:
1) Personal
2) Church
3) Heavenlys
The first place you will have to conquer the enemy is in your own personal life.
If you cannot overcome him in this area you will never overcome him in the others.
There are many direct assaults of Satan upon God's children.
There are physical attacks upon the saints upon bodies and minds.
We must take serious the attacks of the enemy.
We see the results of what the enemy does everyday.
But what are we doing about it?
Are we going to let them pass unchallenged?
How are you going to conduct yourself in the presence of the adversary?
God's word to you is "Stand"!
You have the rights & authority as a son of the king of kings & the lord of lords!
Hallelujah!
Put on the whole armor of god that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
The Greek verbs - "stand against" literally means - to hold your ground!
In this command of God, there is a truth that people who fight against the enemy do not understand.
The command of God is not to invade a foreign territory.
Warfare, in terms of what most people understand, would imply a command to "march".
Armies march into other countries to occupy and to subdue and take the land.
God has not told us to do this.
God command is not to march.
God has told us to "stand".
Now I am talking about your own personal spiritual life
The word "stand" implies that the ground that the enemy says he has really belongs to God.
You do not need to struggle to gain a foothold on what God has given you.
It is already yours!
Hallelujah!
Nearly all the weapons of our warfare described in Eph. are defensive weapons.
Even the sword can be used for defensive as well for offensive.
Defensive says, "I have the ground & I intend to keep it."
Where as offensive warfare says, "I don't have the ground, and I am fighting in order to get it."
This is exactly the difference between the battle fought by Jesus and the battle we fight.
Jesus fight was offensive.
He fought and won the battle! Hallelujah!
Your warfare is defensive.
You own the land - it is yours!
Today we fight against Satan only to affirm what already is ours.
We fight to maintain the victory Jesus has already gained and has given to us.
Jesus has won everything.
Jesus has stripped Satan of all power & authority!
Hallelujah!
The battle in your own personal life is one of calming and holding - not attacking.
When you fight to get the victory you are fighting to gain something you do not have.
If you are not sitting before God - you cannot hope to stand before the enemy.
Satan's primary object is not to get you to believe his lies.
He wants to get you out of your seat - and knock you off the ground you are standing.
The enemy will attack your rest in Christ.
The enemy will attack your walk in the spirit.
Through your mind - through your intellect or through your feelings.
But for every point of attack that the enemy attacks, God has given a way of escape.
The victory has already been won by Jesus.
The victory is therefore yours!
Praise God - Jesus has already overcome the devil!
The more you believe the lord in victory,
The more you will praise Him in that victory !
